Finding love in the 21st century is as confusing as ever. As if it wasn\u2019t daunting enough, navigating sex and dating requires deciphering a whole clusterfuck of modern vocab. There\u2019s a lot about dating that\u2019s the same as it ever was, but with these handy terms in your back pocket, you won\u2019t have to nod along when someone says that some guy is \u2018sus\u2019 with his \u2018zombieing\u2019 behavior. Read on to find out what those, as well as some other of these newfangled dating terms mean in our dating slang cheat sheet.<\/span><\/p>\n

Benching\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

[behn-ching] (v): when you start dating someone, but you don\u2019t know if they have bf\/gf potential. Instead of deciding, you put them in your mental \u201cmaybe\u201d folder.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBesides totally packing downstairs<\/a>, I\u2019m not really sure he\u2019d impress my mother. I\u2019m benching him for now.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Bumble\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

[buhm-bl] (n): like Tinder<\/a>, but better. The girl makes the first move.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI met her on Bumble, so I know she\u2019s at least somewhat interested.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Catch & Release<\/b><\/h3>\n

[kah-tch and ree-lees] (v): in other words, a one-night-stand<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cushioning<\/b><\/h3>\n

DTR\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

[D-T-R] (v): stands for \u201cdefine the relationship<\/a>\u201d aka everybody\u2019s least favorite part of figuring out what the f*ck we are. It either ends great or terribly.<\/span><\/p>\n

FWB<\/b><\/h3>\n

[F-W-B] (n): stands for \u201cfriends with benefits.\u201d Basically a fuck buddy that becomes platonic as soon as you step outside of the bedroom.<\/span><\/p>\n

IRL<\/b><\/h3>\n

[I-R-L] (n): stands for \u201cin real life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Kittenfishing<\/b><\/h3>\n
