The \u201cDry Spell\u201d Explained"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PR research company, OnePoll, got to work on behalf of LELO, in order to understand the who, what, where and how of the dry spell, that is &#8211; a lack of sex for a certain period of time &#8211; as it is experienced today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The research, conducted on 2,000 American adults, revealed some interesting statistics. And if you\u2019re currently in a dry spell, the results may just make you feel a little bit better about your <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/celibacy-syndrome-what-is-it-and-should-we-be-concerned\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">non-existent sex life<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Is a Lack of Sex Considered a Dry Spell?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sexually active have spoken! And the consensus is that, if you\u2019ve gone five months or more without the sideways tango, you\u2019re officially in a dry spell. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly though, the current average when it comes to how long a dry spell lasts, is 11 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men, on average, face a lack of sex for 10 months during a dry spell.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women, on average, face a lack of sex for one year during a dry spell.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this way, the average American adult experiences roughly four dry spells in their lifetime, with 28 percent currently in the midst of its full effects. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you can imagine, this isn\u2019t exactly ideal. Especially since the majority of American adults would like to be enjoying sex three times a week to be fully satisfied.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Are the Main Causes of a Dry Spell?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to this new study:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">32% of adults confessed that their dry spell was due to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/dealing-with-mismatched-libidos\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">relationship problems<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">31% of participants disclosed that their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/where-sex-drive-gone\/\">lack of sexual interest<\/a> was the reason for their dry spell.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25% experienced a lack of sexual activity due to medical conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25% agreed that being in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/long-distance-love-lust-and-making-it-last\/\">long distance relationship<\/a> meant a lack of sex with their partner.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Top Three Causes of a Dry Spell, According to Gender<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For men, the top three reasons for a dry spell, in order, are: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Problems in their relationship<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being preoccupied with work<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/dealing-with-a-partners-impotency\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medical reasons<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For women, the top three reasons for a dry spell, in order, are: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A lack of focus when it comes to sex<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Relationship troubles<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being in a long distance relationship<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Does the Average Adult Overcome a Dry Spell?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the study:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">46% of adults overcome the effects by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/polishing-youre-masturbation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">masturbating<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">38% engage in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/5-exercises-better-sex\/\">more exercise<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">31% rely on sliding into someone\u2019s DM\u2019s (46% when looking at only millennials).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25% spend more time at work.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">18% make use of a few <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/5-golden-rules-sex-ex\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">late night calls to an ex<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study also revealed that 68% of participants rely on a sex toy during their dry spell to help them stay participants came out of a dry spell with a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">better understanding of themselves<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">26% spent more time with their friends and loved ones.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25% managed to save more money.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s also interesting and rather enlightening, is that 15% admitted to being happier during a dry spell, and almost 50% of Americans agreed that a dry spell can actually be a beneficial experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Three Most Common Negative Side Effects of a Dry Spell<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, there are negative side effects when it comes to a lack of sexual pleasure. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And according to the study:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">41% of those who have experienced a dry spell agreed that loneliness was the biggest side effect.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">34% experienced frustration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">29% had increased boredom and anxiety.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Can You Embrace a Dry Spell?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For one, a dry spell gives you the time and energy to focus solely on yourself.
