Change, as they say, is the only constant. It\u2019s hard to keep up in a society that\u2019s so overly-saturated with visual stimuli, and technological access and advancement. <\/span><\/p>\n

And so, just like everything else, sexuality – and the way in which we experience and show love – too is continuously changing. <\/span><\/p>\n

And even though the 60\u2019s were all about \u2018free love\u2019 and good vibes, there\u2019s always been this kind of unspoken rule that the \u2018right\u2019 way to live, is to have a monogamous relationship with the one you love. This is also evident by the way in which society sees divorce – a failure! <\/span><\/p>\n

But is this really the best way to live?<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Monogamy?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Monogamy is when two people have decided to be exclusively sexual with one another. This could be a lifetime commitment, such as a marriage, or serial monogamy that is, only one partner at one time.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Consensual Non-Monogamy? (CNM)<\/span><\/h3>\n

CNM is when two people have decided to have other sexual or romantic partners, while being in a relationship with each other.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Polygamy?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Polygamy<\/a> is when someone has multiple loving and romantic relationships with different people. This shouldn\u2019t be confused with an <\/span>open relationship<\/span><\/a>, which is when a person\/couple have sexual partners outside of their primary relationship. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What Does Monogamy Look Like Today?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Interestingly, the way in which youths are experimenting with and experiencing sexual activity today, has changed quite considerably. And <\/span>according to studies<\/span><\/a>, this has placed a huge impact on the face of the monogamy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, a large percentage of Americans aged 18 to 30 are still virgins, while many others are <\/span>waiting longer to engage in sex<\/span><\/a>. This may be due to the fact that millennials, in general, are more cautious due to over-protective and \u201chelicopter\u201d parenting. <\/span><\/p>\n

Millennials are also more aware of social movements (and news in general), thanks to <\/span>social media<\/span><\/a>. The <\/span>#metoo movement, for example, has created social awareness of dangerous or unwanted sexual situations.<\/span><\/p>\n

And, according to columnist, Ross Douthat, who based his opinion on the book, <\/span>Premarital Sex in America<\/span><\/i>, those who practiced sexual constraint were more happy, and those who were promiscuous showed more signs of depression. <\/span><\/p>\n
