It\u2019s a complex term, prompting a fair amount of questions and curiosities. For example:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does it entail a person thinking of themselves during self-love?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is it a form of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/what-is-asexuality\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">asexuality<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is it a lifestyle preference?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is autosexuality a kind of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sexual orientation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And because we\u2019re living in a time of selfies, reality TV, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instagram<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> models, is autosexual more prominent now than ever before? Let\u2019s take a little look\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30205\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/autosexuality.jpg\" alt=\"Autosexuality\" width=\"660\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/autosexuality.jpg 660w, https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/autosexuality-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexuality vs. Autoeroticism<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The terms \u2018autosexuality\u2019 and \u2018autoeroticism\u2019 are often used interchangeably, and some may argue that they are one in the same.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/shortcuts\/2019\/mar\/04\/age-of-the-autosexual-the-people-sexually-attracted-to-themselves\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an individual interviewed by The Guardian<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> however, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAutosexuality is different from autoeroticism. It\u2019s more about <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/dear-lelo-dont-think-im-masturbating-right-way\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">masturbating<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the idea of yourself. You might, for example, be turned on by your own nudity.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Essentially, one could deduce that autosexuality is more so a sexual orientation whereas autoeroticism is more about having the ability to turn yourself on. In most cases however, professionals tend to use both terms interchangeably.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do Autosexuals Only Fancy Themselves?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexuality is, like many other concepts, complex. Some autosexuals could only have eyes for themselves, while others might engage in self-love when other options aren\u2019t available.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then there are those who can <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/men-vs-women-why-and-how-do-we-experience-sexual-arousal\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get aroused<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by themselves (their body, touch etc.) or by others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, mirror sex is definitely \u2018a thing\u2019 for some autosexuals. They may see themselves as their \u201cother\u201d while engaging in sexual activity with themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The more one identifies as autosexual, the less external <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/your-wildest-dreams-womens-top-ten-erotic-fantasies\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fantasies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they\u2019ll require (imagining or viewing material of others). And yes, masturbation is a form of autosexuality.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I Masturbate, Am I Autosexual?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not necessarily. It\u2019s common knowledge that a wide array of individuals belonging to different genders and sexual orientations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/sex-tips-advice\/masturbation\/\">masturbate<\/a>. In that case, autosexuality would just be called masturbation. Masturbation is merely a facet of autoeroticism with limitations though.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many individuals have the ability to connect with their body during self-pleasure, and are able to experience their very best <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/sex-tips-advice\/orgasm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">orgasms<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> alone. But if they find themselves more stimulated during partnered sex, they are not autosexual.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexuals are primarily aroused by themselves, and often enjoy sex with themselves over sex with a partner. But again, it is complex, and thus depends on the individual.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blurring the Lines: Fantasy and Reality<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An interesting notion is the fact that the line between fantasy and reality is slightly blurred when it comes to autosexuality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For autosexuals, fantasy is not necessarily needed when it comes to having sex with themselves, because the fantasy and the reality are somewhat fused.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example: if someone was feeling exceptionally aroused and craving sex with a partner, this could be the object of their fantasy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexuals however are able to live out and\/or imagine their fantasy of having sex with themselves whenever they please, as they are their \u201cother\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexual vs. Autoromantic<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To further shake things up, autosexuality could also be associated with auto romanticism. Auto romanticism is when an individual has a strong, loving, and emotional connection with themselves. It is quite literally loving oneself as \u201cthe other\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And for many, this kind of relationship can be exceptionally stable and rewarding. This is because this kind of romance can be lifelong with minimal chance of abandonment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Auto romanticism can include taking yourself on a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/35-first-date-ideas-and-everything-you-need-to-know-about-acing-a-first-date\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">date<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, finding new and romantic ways to spoil and enjoy yourself, and more. Even the most mundane of tasks can be turned into a romantic occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexual vs. Sologamy<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To further complicate things, there\u2019s something called sologamy. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/sologamy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sologamy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is when a person is married to themselves. Oftentimes there\u2019s a ceremony with traditional wedding elements involved. It\u2019s a way in which to fully commit to oneself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while some may argue that marrying yourself could be considered narcissistic, it could instead be seen as a means to rejecting societal pressures of finding \u2018the one\u2019 and realising that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">you<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are, in fact, \u2018the one\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that, autosexuality is of course not the same thing as sologamy, yet autosexual individuals may be more prone to sologamy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexual: Are You Simply a Narcissist?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexuals aren\u2019t narcissists, and being autosexual doesn\u2019t equal having a personality disturbance. In fact, the only connection the two terms have, is the fact that they both include a form of (mostly physical) self-love. After all, the definition of a narcissist, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lexico.com\/en\/definition\/narcissist\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lexico<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201ca person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in a non-sexual way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, narcissism is also usually characterized by a lack of empathy for others, arrogance, manipulative, and demanding\u2026 and this isn\u2019t what autosexuality is about.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autosexuality is usually the fact that a person is literally <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in love<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with themselves and engages in a relationship with themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TLRD? Basically, narcissism is a personality disorder, while autosexuality is a sexual practice, preference, or orientation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And so, if you\u2019ve just now learned all about the world of autosexuality, you know how the expression goes: everyday is a school day!
