{"id":3077,"date":"2012-08-31T09:48:47","date_gmt":"2012-08-31T09:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/?p=3077"},"modified":"2026-03-05T04:10:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T03:10:06","slug":"fifty-shades-effect-uk-couples-3-times-sex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/fifty-shades-effect-uk-couples-3-times-sex\/","title":{"rendered":"How &#8216;Fifty Shades of Grey&#8217; Impacted UK Sex Statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The \u2018Fifty Shades of Grey\u2019 book series is still flying off store shelves and being downloaded faster than any book in history (sorry Harry), and it now seems they\u2019re inspiring a number of readers to take a page from the literary blockbusters.<\/p>\n<p>A study done for Netmums about the post-Fifty Shades sex lives of over 2,000 UK readers revealed some interesting insights on how scenarios from the page can affect our real life passions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The research showed that on average, <strong>respondents were having sex once a wee<\/strong>k, but after closing the cover on the final page, <strong>that number has since jumped to 3 weekly sessions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The study also noted that <strong>two-thirds said that their lovemaking is now lasting longer<\/strong>, with an average <strong>extension of 15 minutes<\/strong> reported.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What are people doing with this extra time?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the data, <strong>new sexual positions<\/strong>; 40% of the people surveyed stated that their previous lovemaking was comprised mainly of one position during an intimate encounter, now they report <strong>trying up to five positions<\/strong> per lovemaking session.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now, are you ready for some controversy?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This new adventurous position on positions has caused a shakeup in the list of Britain\u2019s favorite sex stances, with <strong>Reverse Cowgirl<\/strong> the top dog to previous favorite Doggy Style.<\/li>\n<li>It seems also that the tools employed by Christian Grey have piqued the interest of readers, with <strong>2 in 5 of the 2,000 survey takers have bought sex toys<\/strong> or have at least browsed through a sex shop since reading the book. The items of most interest were blindfolds, handcuffs and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/lelo-recommends-gateway-vibes\/\">vibrators<\/a>, while one in five opted for bondage ties, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/lelo-beads-review\/\">love beads<\/a> and whips.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Best of all, though, is that more than half of all respondents said that the much talked-about books have left them <strong>more sexually adventurous<\/strong>, and 54% claim that this sex surge has brought them <strong>emotionally closer to their partners<\/strong> \u2013 expect more in coming months when the Fifty Shades baby boom comes to a head!<\/p>\n<p>All finished with Fifty Shades and wondering what erotic fiction to pick up next?
