But, at the end of the day, we\u2019re living in a superficial world. A world where sight is often considered more important when it comes to finding <\/span>love<\/span> and feeling attraction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, there\u2019s something <\/span>entirely erotic<\/span> about mystery that can stir up feelings of sexual attraction and excitement. Hearing someone\u2019s voice\u2014one which you find soothing or appealing\u2014without having met them, can be a thrilling experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Further proving this point, a 1999 study by <\/span>Nancy Etcoff<\/span><\/a>, a clinical professor in psychology, found that attractive high school girls were 10 times more likely to get married as opposed to less attractive girls. This study, plainly put, reveals that boys and men are more attracted to appearance than <\/span>intelligence<\/span> (of course this study was based on heterosexual individuals).<\/span><\/p>\n

Diving deeper into the subject of a sexy voice, let\u2019s look at a quote from Renee Wade:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can hear an especially deep voice from another room without seeing the man, and instantly conclude that his behaviour would be more dominant than his male counterparts with higher voices. I would also assume that he\u2019s particularly healthy and attractive.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Indeed, a person\u2019s voice\u2014the way in which it sounds and the things that are said\u2014can give us a huge amount of insight. But what\u2019s the deal with the pitch of someone\u2019s voice? Well, <\/span>a study by Madeleine Fug\u00e8re<\/span><\/a> looked at this very topic and found that women were more attracted to men with lower-pitched voices. This is possibly due to the fact that it\u2019s associated with higher levels of testosterone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand, Fug\u00e8re found that men in her study preferred women with higher-pitched voices, as it indicated signs of youth and thinness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Interestingly, a <\/span>2010 study by Susan Hughes<\/span><\/a> and colleagues found that women were more prone to speaking in a higher-pitched voice when they were interacting with an attractive stranger, yet spoke in a lower-pitched voice when speaking with their <\/span>romantic partner<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The study showed that men too are guilty of this behaviour, as when they spoke to their romantic partner, they used a higher-pitched voice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With all of this information, it\u2019s fair to say that we could possibly gauge whether someone is attracted to us using only the pitch of their voice, as it correlates to, in part, <\/span>sexual desire<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Romance and <\/span>flirting<\/span><\/a> aside, let\u2019s talk about sex!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a different <\/span>study<\/span><\/a>, conducted by Gallup and Frederick in 2010, it was found that individuals with a sexy voice were more likely to <\/span>lose their virginity<\/span><\/a> earlier than those without a sexy voice, <\/span>and<\/span><\/i> they were shown to have more sexual partners too.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0And while another study suggested that those with a sexy voice were often more physically attractive and had better personalities, it also showed that men and women with a sexy voice tended to be more <\/span>unfaithful<\/span><\/a> than those with a less-sexy voice.<\/span><\/p>\n

To elaborate, this <\/span>study<\/span><\/a> showed that, when individuals rated others solely on the pitch of their voice, they were able to identify those who had a history of cheating. <\/span>\u201cThe human voice may be of value as a cheater detection tool and very thin slices of vocal information are all that is needed to make certain assessments about others,\u201d <\/span><\/i>said Susan Hughes and Marissa Harrison, the leaders of the study.<\/span><\/p>\n
