Why Do Men Enjoy Hearing About Their Partner\u2019s Sexual Past?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Did you know that there\u2019s an actual <\/span>Reddit<\/span><\/i> forum of over 70k members, called \u2018<\/span>Hotpass\u2019<\/span><\/i>, that\u2019s been solely dedicated to sharing the details of a partner\u2019s sexual past?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Respectfully, this <\/span>subReddit<\/span><\/i> does not allow for stories regarding <\/span>cheating<\/span><\/a> but is more so a forum for those who <\/span>fetishise<\/span> the hearing of, or fantasising about, the sexual past and sexual exploits of their partners prior to their current relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n

Interestingly, for many, having this fantasy was not always so. In fact, for the majority of those who contribute to this forum, it all began with jealousy (known as retrospective jealousy), insecurity, and fear. Some even felt as though they couldn\u2019t compete with their partner\u2019s past lovers or that they were less sexually experienced than them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For other men, it was found that these feelings of jealousy actually transformed into feelings of <\/span>arousal<\/span>. According to sex advice columist <\/span>Dan Savage<\/span>, this could be because of something called \u2018eroticising of fear\u2019, which turns feelings of fear into feelings of arousal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And while this may sound strange, it actually makes sense because of evolutionary psychology. In other words, way back when, men would compete with other men to find a female partner for procreation. And during this process, elements of jealousy were then <\/span>turbocharged into sexual arousal<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another reason why some men might like to hear about their partner\u2019s past sexual experiences is because, for many, it\u2019s intriguing to have or experience something that others want or <\/span>desire<\/span><\/a>. It\u2019s almost like an ego boost.<\/span><\/p>\n

And then, of course, there is the aspect of seeing women as \u201csluts\u201d. Hearing stories about how other men have had their partner in various positions or doing certain sexual acts in the past. This can be extremely arousing for some.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Madonna-Whore Complex<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Another dynamic which is interesting about men who enjoy hearing about their partner\u2019s past sexual experiences is the whole \u2018Madonna-Whore Complex\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Madonna-Whore Complex says that a woman can either be a \u201cgood\u201d Madonna or a seductive \u201cwhore\u201d. But for men who gain arousal from their partner\u2019s previous sexual encounters, the lines are blurred.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The polarised idea that a woman can be both a \u201cMadonna\u201d and a \u201cWhore\u201d could actually feed into their <\/span>fantasy<\/span><\/a>, allowing them to view their partner in a more holistic way. Could this be a positive step in the reduction of patriarchal tendencies? Possibly!<\/span><\/p>\n

Essentially, there are positives and negatives attached to this kind of fetish or intrigue. Could it reinforce the idea that women are \u201cslutty\u201d, or could it shatter the patriarchy?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
