And what was once considered a huge taboo, a bad drug that shouldn\u2019t be used, is now seen as somewhat of a marvel in a multitude of areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while we love the fact that we have the freedom to choose our own beliefs and actions, we do want to bring to the light the effects that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/effects-of-weed-on-sex\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">marijuana<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has on sex. Spoiler alert? They\u2019re good!<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sexual Experiences: What Do Recent Studies Say About Marijuana and Sex?<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two more recent studies conducted confirmed what has actually been discovered some time ago: that weed actually does enhance one\u2019s sexual experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So today, we\u2019re going to be focusing on these two studies; one conducted by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31447385\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">University of British Columbia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and one undergone by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30833225\/#:~:text=Results%3A%20Of%20the%20373%20participants,but%20no%20change%20in%20lubrication.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St Louis University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">University of British Columbia: How Cannabis Alters Sexual Experience in Men and Women<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this study, 216 men and women talked about how marijuana affected their <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sexual experiences<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In short:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">74 percent: increased sensitivity to erotic touch<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">74 percent: improved sexual satisfaction<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">70 percent: prompted relaxation and mindfulness during sex<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">66 percent: boosted the power of their orgasms<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">59 percent: increased sexual desire<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">41 percent: mixed reviews with marijuana improving some aspects but not others<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">39 percent: \u201cmarijuana is always sex enhancing\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5 percent: did not like to mix marijuana and sex at all<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The researchers concluded that many of the participants were better able to relax during sex when marijuana was involved. They also found that it heightened their <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sensitivity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, increased intense sexual feelings which, in turn, enhanced their intimate experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, a small number of participants found that marijuana before sex made them feel <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sleepy<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or less focused, decreasing their sexual experience, and some admitted to feeling no effects on sex whatsoever.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St Louis University: The Relationship Between Marijuana Use Prior to Sex and Sexual Function in Women\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this study, which lasted for one year, 373 women were studied in an attempt to uncover the effects of marijuana on sexual functioning. The key elements included <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/dealing-with-mismatched-libidos\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">libido<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">arousal<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">orgasm<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and sexual satisfaction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study was done in-person, at a gynaecologist\u2019s office. Women were asked to fill in an anonymous questionnaire, then placed their results in a locked box to maintain anonymity. The results found that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">34 percent used marijuana before sexual activity<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was twice as likely for those who used marijuana frequently before sex to report deeply satisfying orgasms as opposed to those who abstained or rarely used marijuana before sex\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most women who used marijuana before sex reported having an increase in sex drive and a decrease in pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was no change in lubrication with or without marijuana<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And just for good measure, let\u2019s briefly look at other studies focusing on the correlation between marijuana and sex.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additional Scientific Research on How Marijuana Affects Your Sex Life<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jstor.org\/stable\/3812350\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kansas City study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that two-thirds of participants who used weed before sex experienced increased emotional <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/what-is-the-hormone-oxytocin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">closeness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, sexual pleasure, and satisfaction. The other one-third felt as though marijuana had no effect on their lovemaking or levels of pleasure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/med.stanford.edu\/news\/all-news\/2017\/10\/regular-marijuana-use-linked-to-more-sex.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stanford researchers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> looked at over 51,000 participants, both men and women, and found varying responses. The main find was that marijuana users were, on average, having sex more times in a month than those who didn\u2019t use marijuana before sex.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all of this scientific research, the mixed reviews and results are of no surprise, as all individuals experience things differently. However, it does seem to point quite favourably towards smoking weed before sex for more intimacy, increased sexual satisfaction, better orgasms, and increased sensitivity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you\u2019re currently smoking and poking, or you\u2019re looking to give it a go, we always recommend doing a lot of research beforehand about the weed you\u2019re buying.
