Indeed it does.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How does sexual arousal change throughout your menstrual cycle?<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sex drive<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and motivation is different, and what\u2019s \u201cnormal\u201d for you may not be \u201cnormal\u201d for someone else.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plus, there are a ton of other factors that can influence someone\u2019s arousal: their sleep schedules, levels of stress, connection with a partner, and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of this aside, sex hormones definitely play a big role in helping, or hindering, your levels of arousal and desire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How so? Let\u2019s first take a look at the sex hormones\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Estrogen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: keeps the vaginal tissue lubricated and plump, increases desire, and makes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/get-sexy-on-your-period\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sexual activity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more pleasurable.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Progesterone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: induces a calming mood and better sleep, and reduces symptoms of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PMS<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But, when progesterone is high, it can lower one\u2019s sex drive.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Testosterone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: spikes at the same time as estrogen (mid-cycle) and together, boosts sex drive and may even improve <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/orgasms-are-good-for-you-period\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">orgasms<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that we\u2019re familiar with these three sex hormones and what they do, when are they up or down throughout the cycle?<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follicular phase<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the beginning of the follicular phase, estrogen begins to rise. And as this hormone continues to rise, there will be an increase in energy and sexual desire, especially nearer to the follicular phase, mentally and physically.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mentally, you\u2019re more aroused and physically, your body is producing more <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/vaginal-dryness-causes-and-treatments\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vaginal lubrication<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and your genitals are more sensitive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ovulation phase<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During ovulation, sexual desire and arousal will often be at its highest as estrogen levels surge. This is no coincidence as during ovulation your body is preparing to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conceive<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Masturbation during ovulation has the capacity to be better, sex during ovulation has the capacity to be better, and your orgasms could be even more pleasurable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luteal phase<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Estrogen levels continue to rise in the luteal phase but not at warp speed like during the ovulation phase. At the same time progesterone levels begin to rise. This combination often means a lower sex drive, as progesterone affects lubrication (you may need extra lube during this phase), and it might be harder to orgasm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, PMS starts to rear its head during the end of the luteal phase, which is accompanied with some not-so-fun side effects.
