Let\u2019s dive deeper\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does Ejaculation Lower Testosterone?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>The short answer is: no. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/what-causes-premature-ejaculation\/\">Ejaculation<\/a>, by sex or masturbation, doesn\u2019t cause a big or lasting decline in testosterone.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while other hormones change quite drastically short-term, such as a big rise in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/why-do-men-fall-asleep-after-sex\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prolactin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (giving off a sleepy feeling), and temporary changes in dopamine and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/what-is-the-hormone-oxytocin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">oxytocin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (the \u2018happy\u2019 and \u2018bonding\u2019 hormones), testosterone either stays stable or fluctuates only so slightly but returns back to baseline quickly.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>How Do We Know This?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/12697037\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> measured testosterone levels (as well as vasopressin, LH, and FSH) around sexual activity and arousal and found that <strong>plasma concentrations remained unaltered<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where things get confusing however, is when studies and research are misunderstood or misconstrued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/12659241\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which has since been retracted, looked at men who had been abstinent from any sexual activity and ejaculation, and noticed a \u201c7 day spike\u201d in testosterone on day 7. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/increase-testosterone-45-percent\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This study was then widely publicised<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, making many believe that not ejaculating for 7 days actually increases testosterone by 45 percent. This isn\u2019t true however, so there\u2019s no need to avoid sex or masturbation to \u201cprotect\u201d testosterone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bottom line of these trials and studies find that <strong>the frequency of ejaculation (including masturbation) is not a meaningful determinant of baseline testosterone<\/strong>. And even though there are fluctuations in other hormones, such as prolactin, oxytocin, dopamine, and endorphins, which may result in feelings of improved mood, bonding, sleepiness, and closeness, this does not equal lower testosterone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Other factors are far more important when it comes to the circulation of testosterone however, such as sleep, weight, illness, medication, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelo.com\/blog\/heres-what-stress-does-to-your-sex-life-what-you-can-do-about-it\/\">stress<\/a>, and age.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How To Naturally Influence Testosterone Positively in Men<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are meaningful and safe ways to support testosterone levels through everyday habits.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.
