LELO’s Future of Sex and Love Report 2026: “Analogue” Intimacy Findings

In an era where artificial intelligence and robotics are transforming how we define companionship, romance, and emotional fulfillment, we are approaching a fascinating tipping point. Our digital tools have made it effortlessly easy to connect, but are they leaving us feeling further apart?

To answer this, LELO has officially released its 2026 Futurist Report: The Analogue Counter-Movement: Redefining Intimacy in a Mixed Reality World. Developed in collaboration with globally renowned applied futurist Tracey Follows, this report explores how our tech-saturated bedrooms could spark a societal shift back to raw, unscripted human connection.

Here is a sneak peek into what the future holds for love, sex, and digital intimacy.

The Current Reality: AI in the Bedroom

AI has transitioned into an autonomous collaborator in our daily lives, and its integration into our romantic lives has reached unprecedented levels. According to LELO’s global survey, 60% of respondents currently use, or have used, AI in relation to their intimate lives.

How exactly are we using it?

  • For Guidance and Fantasy: 36% turn to AI for relationship advice, 28% use it as a confidence booster, and 22% use it to inspire fantasies and role-play scenarios.
  • As a Romantic Mediator: Interestingly, 16% of individuals have used AI to help resolve arguments with their partner, 15% use it to plan date itineraries, and 18% even admit to passing off AI-written messages as their own.

However, the survey also reveals a growing skepticism. Even with high adoption rates, 29% of respondents remain critical of AI’s findings in romance, and 13% consider it actively harmful.

Being Connected vs. Feeling Connected

As sexual wellness becomes increasingly digitized—think intimacy coaching, AI companions, and body tracking—the bedroom is transforming into a media platform. Digital life is incredibly good at keeping us “connected” (reachable, visible, and responsive). But being connected is not the same as feeling connected.

To truly feel connected means being recognized, safe, understood, and feeling that another person is really present. If digital intimacy becomes associated with emotional fatigue, over-scripting, and a loss of privacy, we are poised to experience an “Analogue Counter-Movement”.

Tracey Follows predicts our romantic futures will soon split into two distinct paths:

  1. Saturated Intimacy: Intimacy as an always-on medium that is digitally assisted, trackable, scripted, and personalized.
  2. Situated Intimacy: Intimacy that happens in a particular moment with someone. It is embodied, local, private, mutual, awkward, and entirely unrecorded.

The Next Decade of Love: A Timeline

The report maps out a clear timeline for how this shift back to analogue connections will unfold:

  • 2026 to 2028: Intimacy Fatigue. Digital sexual wellness will become ubiquitous, but fatigue will build as people feel highly informed yet strangely removed from actual experiences. We will start seeing “taste” manifest as phone-free bedrooms, offline dating nights, and untracked retreats.
  • 2028 to 2032: Trust Becomes the Fault Line. Consumers will shift from asking “Does this help me?” to “What does this know about me?”. As emotional and sexual data become highly sensitive, “situated intimacy” will become highly valued because it is private, unrecorded, and unavailable to the digital system.
  • 2032 to 2035: In-Real-Life (IRL) Intimacy Becomes the Opportunity. A generation raised on AI companions and algorithmic dating will need to rebuild relational confidence—like how to handle rejection, read a room, and sit in silence. The biggest opportunities will center on designing spaces and rituals that allow human connection to remain unhurried and real.

The Final Takeaway: Human Presence is the New Luxury

Technology will never fully replace the analogue human need for connection. As AI makes digital companionship more available, analogue experiences become infinitely more valuable. In the relationships of the future, the highest form of luxury will not be access to the most advanced technology, but rather the rare privilege of private, untracked, and unmediated human presence.
