Following the inclusion of a LELO branded float in the Emily in Paris show, the real life brand delves into mysteries of bedrooms across Paris.
Imagine watching your favourite series and seeing your favourite brand appear in one of the episodes? This is exactly what happened in episode 7 of season 5 of the hit show Emily in Paris. Everyone’s favourite real life sexual wellness brand LELO made an unexpected cameo appearance in a role it does the best – celebrating human sexuality and freedom of expressing it. Following this unexpected inclusion in the Parisian lifestyle, LELO decided to explore what sex toys Parisians actually have in their goodie drawer.
The image of a romantic Paris is a global cultural touchstone. Yet, the actual practice of Parisian pleasure, dating, and sex often differs wildly from the idealized version. As suggested by the survey conducted by Censuswide for LELO, the true art of French love is rooted in subtlety, and a philosophy that places individual pleasure at its core. In light of that, it is interesting to note that:
- (Only) 41.5% own a sex toy. Well over half of the respondents do not have a single toy.
- It is even more interesting to see that the most frequent items found in Parisian goodie drawers are sexy underwear (36.1%) and condoms (35.5%).
- About one in five (or 21.6%) have a vibrator. This is true of most arrondissements.
- Most goodie drawers include a vibrator or a dildo. Still, in a few arrondissements their inhabitants seem a bit more adventurous. Most notably, in arrondissement 1 a lot of goodie drawers are actually entire rooms, as BDSM furniture and sex dolls are among the most common items.
- Generation-wise, Millennials (42%) and GenZ (41.5%) are the most adventurous as 42% have at least one toy.
- No one has over 10 toys in their drawer.
- Most respondents have only condoms and lube in their drawers, and no toys (27.5%)
- 17.6% have one toy, while 13.9% have up to 4 toys. Only 3.2% have between 5 and ten toys.
- The most playful arrondissements are 1 where 20.5% have five to ten toys, and 9 and 12 where 24% have five to ten toys
- Most Parisians are not into kink/BDSM. Only 23.5% of participants claim to be into it.
- The kinkiest arrondissements are 1 and two, where 44% and 45% of those surveyed are into BDSM. The kinkiest age group is 25-34 with 37.9% of respondents being into kink and BDSM.
- The “obvious suspects”, i.e. items found in the majority of drawers are underwear, vibrators/dildos, lube, condoms and clit suckers. If you exclude these, the item most frequently found in most Parisian homes is the eye mask, with 10.3% having one by their nightstand. Men (18.5%) and women (14.3%) both seem to enjoy handcuffs.
- When we look at the typical goodie drawers across Parisian arrondissements, male masturbators, remote controlled couples toys and maid uniforms appear to be present in almost every single one. Yet, some arrondissements seem friskier than others, like how 16.6% of respondents have edible underwear and fantasy cosplay costumes in their boudoir. Strap on, gimp suits and electro sex gear can be found in 9% of homes.
It seems puritanism has no home in Paris, but sex is mostly kept in the private sphere… and it comes with little accessories. No one can call Parisians prudish, but it seems their drawers are mostly used to store clothes and other paraphernalia. Toys, not so much.
Luckily, there are expats around, and famous expats in particular that love LELO.
*Survey conducted by Censuswide in October 2025 for LELO; with a 1,000 respondents from all 20 arrondissements of Paris.
